Silver for Britain at Berlin World Cup!

Sarah Bettles, Eleanor Piper and Bryony Pitman have won a fantastic team silver for Britain at the fourth stage of the Hyundai World Cup in Berlin!
The recurvers qualified in 11th spot, earning a bye into last 16 where they faced Germany. It ended in a tie, forcing a shoot-off. Germany shot 25 but the British trio shot an almost perfect 29 and seized the opportunity, going on to defeat China 5-1. That brought them head to head with Chinese Taipei in the semis for one of the closest matches yet. Again, it ended in a tie and Britain edged it by a single point.
That left them facing the might of double Olympic Champion and world number one Chang Hye Jin, world number three Kang Chae Young and Jung Dasomi in the battle for gold.
Bryony, 21, Sarah, 25, and 19-year-old Eleanor got off to a tentative start but their confidence grew as the match progressed and they hit form. Experience told in the end, though, and the Korean top seeds took the gold medal.
Bryony and Patrick Huston reached the quarter finals of the recurve mixed team competition. They beat Austria 6-2 and Italy 5-3 but their progress was halted by the fourth seeds, Russia, who are now in a bronze medal showdown with Turkey.
The recurve men’s team of Patrick, Alex Wise and Tom Hall qualified in 17th place and beat India 6-2 for a place in the last 16. There they took on Korea – and the top seeds proved too strong, winning 6-0.
Our compound women – Lucy Mason, Lucy O’Sullivan and Bayley Sargent – faced India and lost out on a place in the quarter finals by a single point. Lucy Mason also shot with James Mason in the compound mixed category. and lost out by a single point to Bangladesh.
In the individual categories, compounder James Mason put on a powerful performance to reach the quarter finals.
The 15th seed saw off Switzerland’s Roman Haefelfinger 147-145, Anton Bulaev of Russia 144-143 and Elia Fregnan 146-144 before coming up against the highly-experinced Peter Elzinga. James shot 144 but the Dutchman edged it with 146.
Compounder Lucy Mason, qualified in 20th place, earning her a bye into the last 48. She defeated Kazakhstan’s Diana Makarchuk 136-131 but her progress was halted by Kristina Heigenhauser of Germany. Lucy O’Sullivan, seeded 46th, fell to 134-140 to Chen Li Ju of Chinese Taipei while Bayley Sargeant was beaten 134-140 by India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam. Edinburgh University’s Sarah Prieels, shooting for Belgium, reached the last 16.
Recurver Patrick Huston was seeded 10th and defeated Canada’s Brandon Xuereb 6-0 before losing a shoot-off 8-9 against Sultan Duzelbayev of Kazakhstan. Sixtieth seed Alex Wise beat Luxembourg’s Jeff Henckels 6-4 but fell to Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida 0-6 and Tom Hall, ranked 95th, was beaten 6-2 by Australian Ryan Tyack.
Bryony Pitman, seeded at 32, defeated Karakoz Askarova of Kazakhstan 7-1 but could not get past Slovakia’s Alexandra Longova, losing 3-7.
